Rockhouse Hotel & Spa and the modern Skylark Negril Beach Resort are two ‘sister properties’, the first on the western cliffs of Negril, a beautiful and well-known Jamaican tourist Resort, the second mirrored on the white Caribbean coral beach.
The founder of both hotels is Paul Simon, Australian by origin, with a background in finance that has taken him around the world, and a lifelong passion for sustainable tourism. So impressed by the jamaican culture, atmosphere and cuisine, he gave up everything when his first child was born and decided to completely renovate Rockhouse in 1994 and build a second Resort years later.
Rockhouse Hotel & Spa has its own personality, an x-factor, which remains in the memory. Its architecture overlooking the sea makes it a property completely immersed in nature, from which it seems to naturally emerge. The simple design in line with the surrounding landscape comes from Frank Lloyd and his followers, architects Don Erickson and Dennis Stephens, who designed the Rockhouse spaces in 1973, using straw, local timber and fossil rock.
This line was carried out by the Australian architect Jean-Henri Morin, called by Paul Simon, to renovate and expand the Hotel, with the specific intention of respecting the surrounding environment by also adopting furnishings produced with natural materials on site .
The care with which it was built has contributed to giving this Design Hotel multiple awards and certifications over the years (Earthcheck and GreenGlobe) also thanks to continuous commitment and constant aim at improving its habitability and a series of eco-sustainable practices to minimize the impact on the environment. A Green Globe Manager, Ruel Rowe, annually undergoes an external environmental audit by experts with his team to monitor and improve eco-friendly and social sustainability actions.
A mission finding its greatest fulfillment in Rockhouse Foundation created in 2004 for the improvement of the Jamaican school system to provide adequate education and a worthy future to the native children. Projects and programs subsidized directly by its founder Paul Simon and supported by local authorities through fundraising initiatives.
