The Bio Hotel Raphaël Relais & Châteaux *****L is located in the heart of Rome: an exclusive and privileged location to discover the secrets of the noisy capital and at the same time enjoy the silent peace that reigns here. Just as a city linked to the glory of its past is expected to show off its marvels, so the Bio Hotel Raphäel immediately reveals its genius loci, i.e. its profound spirit, in the luxuriant, unforgettable and now emblematic façade of American vines, wisteria and bougainvillea. It is not only a splendid plant architecture or an elegant decoration, it is the mirror of the Deep Green philosophy that guides every idea, every choice and every action of the Maître de maison Roberto Vannoni and his collaborators. Only conscious, responsible management oriented towards common well-being in which care for the planet and the people who inhabit it is the same, allows them to continue to create, communicate and share a refined, measured and never banal luxury.
The realization of this Bio-Utopia was possible thanks to the American architect Richard Meier and Chef Pietro Leemann. The former designed the restyling of the hotel in a gentle and sustainable way, while the latter proposed vegetarian, organic, biodynamic and finally vegan cuisine. The look to the future has led to the use of natural materials such as wood, hemp and straw, which reduce the environmental impact, limit energy consumption and are not harmful to health, while fidelity to the origins and to the suspended time of art can be found on the collection of masterpieces including Mirò, De Chirico and Picasso, that continues to illuminate the common areas and the 50 rooms, mostly junior suites and suites, which open along the four floors with their unique style in design and care for the detail up to the terrace, that houses the Mater Terrae restaurant, an example of ecological and solar architecture.
The link with the earth, already highlighted in the name, is best expressed in its organic and vegetable vocation with a preference for organic and seasonal products that preserve flavours and sublimate biodiversity. The commitment to sustainability, work ethics, the enhancement of local products and the promotion of greater eco-sensitivity made Mater Terrae worth of prestigious awards: for the second time in a raw it obtained the Green Star from the 2023 Michelin Guide, it received the maximum score of 5 radishes and the 90th position among the best vegetarian restaurants in the world by We’re Smart Green Guide 2022 and finally it is the first vegetarian reality that becomes part of L’Unione Ristoranti del Buon Ricordo, a well-known association of Italian gastronomic excellences, with the Italian ‘Renaissance dish’.
