In Piedmont, among the Langhe hills, there is an ancient Cistercian monastery, built in 1619 by a group of monks as a place of prayer and work, which today hosts Relais San Maurizio. During the long conservative restoration completed in 2002, all the rooms and suites of the Monastery and of Villa San Luigi were rethought and redesigned to pay homage and highlight the history of the place, perfectly combining the original architectural elements of the 15th century with the elegance of 19th century furniture and the addition of contemporary design details and handcrafted items. The large windows that open onto landscapes of vivid and emotional colours are an invitation not only to take time for yourself by letting yourself be embraced by the silence and pampered by the scents of nature, but also to embark on the discovery of the food and wine excellences of the area, from truffles to hazelnuts, from cheeses to wine.
In this sparkling and at the same time relaxing setting, Guests have the opportunity to do multiple experiences, all of which have their source in the precious heritage of the monks: the medicinal garden and the organic garden. Thanks to their care and dedication, the gardens on the hill of San Maurizio in fact still offer the main raw materials such as grapes, ancient cereals, aromatic and medicinal herbs and spices for the dishes on the menu, for the detoxifying herbal teas and for the exclusive San Maurizio 1619 Skinfood® cosmetic line, in full accordance with the eco-friendly philosophy of the Relais.
If the goal is to indulge in a feeling of well-being, beauty, health and harmony, the Spa of Relais San Maurizio is a must with its bio-sauna with aromatic herbs from the garden and with its two exclusive wellness programs. The DiVino Path accompanies Guests inside two barrels from the early 1900s where they can immerse themselves in a bio sauna or lie down on a bed made up of grape seeds that release heat to the body, hydrating and toning the skin, counteracting its aging and giving a feeling of total relaxation. The Thalassotherapy Path, on the other hand, is a real salt route, in which they are invited to immerse themselves in two tubs with different saline densities to revitalize, cleanse and detoxify the skin, giving a complete and lasting benefit. The link with nature and with what it offers is also reproposed in the San Maurizio 1619 Skinfood® cosmetic line, which combines the functionality of the active ingredients of fruit, vegetables and aromatic herbs with the quality of natural ingredients to ensure maximum effectiveness of the cleansing processes, hydration, skin nutrition and cell regeneration.
If the goal is instead to get to know the excellence of the territory better, the Guests have three different culinary proposals at their disposal: the Michelin-starred restaurant Guido da Costigliole led by Chef Ugo Alciati, the Origini Bistrot led by Chef Giuseppe La Salvia and the Hemingway Bar. The recipes of the local gastronomic tradition are offered without contamination, the raw materials are personally selected from local producers and the dishes are enjoyed slowly to feel at home: going from the land to the table is the only truly sustainable “green therapy”.
Moreover, for wine lovers, the San Maurizio Wine Club was recently born, which opens the doors of the Relais cellar, offering members the opportunity to have access to the complete collection of labels by Guido da Costigliole and other carefully selected Guest Producers, as well as a series of initiatives and exclusive experiences to discover the great Italian and foreign wines.
